LITIGATION SUPPORT
REPRESENTATIVE PROJECT EXPERIENCE
- Expert workers’ comp support for various industrial clients in the transportation / freight, manufacturing, and welding / fabrication sectors. Services provided in response to occupational disease claims alleging health effects from workplace exposures. Expert industrial hygiene services have included:
- documentation of site observations
- airborne chemical exposure monitoring
- dust sampling and analysis to evaluate potential exposure sources
- extensive document review
- claimant interviews
- written expert reports
- testimony before an administrative law judge
- Expert workers’ comp support for a commercial client where various health effects were alleged to be associated with office indoor environmental quality. Investigation included facility walk-through, air and settled dust sampling and analysis, claimant interviews, and written report.
- Participated in a simulation study designed to reconstruct and characterize occupant exposure to carbon monoxide in a recreational vehicle. Instrumental in obtaining study approval by the Institutional Review Board (IRB), addressing study design, participant safety precautions, documentation, and ethical issues.
- Provided testimony on behalf of a carpet manufacturing company regarding testing protocols and emissions criteria established and used for evaluation of product impact on indoor air quality.
- Retained by major insurance carriers to provide expert industrial hygiene services involving investigation of various potential chemical and microbial contamination associated with fire and water losses in commercial and residential buildings.
- Provided technical and litigation support on various cases involving potential asbestos exposure from gaskets and packing, molded phenolic resin products, mastics and coatings, electrical components, and friction materials in heavy equipment. Reviewed and summarized case materials, historical regulatory requirements, scientific literature, and government and medical records for use in the preparation of expert reports and trial exhibits.
- Investigated an odor in a multi-story residential building in support of litigation including air sampling in the occupied space and assessment of source emissions, and provided expert testimony before a jury.
- Provided technical and litigation support for a high-rise hotel facility, including sampling for Legionella and potential airborne chemical contaminants associated with facility operations & maintenance.
